What Is Seam Welding?
Seam welding is a form of resistance welding method in which the two similar or dissimilar metals or metal alloys are linked by supplying an electric current and by which a nugget (molten metal part) is created. Generally, these nuggets are produced in the form of butt or the overlapping welding parts. Resistance seam welding is a type of resistance spot welding with the main variance being that the welding electrodes are motor driven wheels rather than stationary rods. It is perfect for sheet metal fabrication.
How does the Seam Welding process work?
Working Principle of Seam Welding:
- The working principle of seam welding is similar to the working principle of resistance welding.
- Heat needed at the time of the welding is generated due to the resistance of the material.
- In the seam welding, an electrode of the roller type is used.
- The two rollers have an identical size which are brought in contact with the workpiece
- Then, the electric current is provided to these rollers.
- As the supplied current is very high the interface surface between the roller and the workpiece begins to melt.
- And then a strong weld joint is created.
- After that, these rollers begin to rotate on the surface of the workpiece.
- As these rollers move, a group of a continuous joint is formed.
What are the advantages of Seam Welding?
Advantages of Seam Welding are:
- Suitable for liquid and gas tight containers.
- Seam Welding Is Fast with Minimal Pollution.
- Formation of Clear and Durable Welds.
- Seam welding can be automated.
- Easy to operate with maximum utilization of current.
- Most common welding processes for joining metals in a continuous weld.
- Practical for use on metals such as stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, and tungsten.
- Produces less overlap than projection and spot welding.
- Overlap produced during seam welding rarely exceeds 10mm.
- Used to join two materials at the seam using pressure and electric current.
- Used to fabricate sheet metal containers and automobile mufflers.
- With spot welding, you can form the gas-tight as well as liquid-tight joints.
- Process created the parallel seam weld and the single seam weld at the same time.
- No requirement of the fillers used in welding.
What are the applications of Seam Welding Machine?
Applications of Seam Welding Machine:
- Utilised in the manufacturing of all types of the barrels.
- Utilised in the manufacturing of all types of the exhaust system.
- Utilised in the manufacturing of all types of the aircraft tanks.
- Utilised in the manufacturing of all types of the refrigerators, oil transformers.
- Utilised in the welding of the stainless steel, magnesium alloys and nickel alloys.
- Utilised in the manufacturing of all Sheet Metal Components Strip Processing Industries, Containers, etc.
